a quiet night

knocked off at 6.30pm. dun feel like heading home, even if colleague offered a lift.
it s friday night and im supposed to be out having fun.

so yes im out and alone. went toys inc and there s new stock of tofu-man collectibles, sold in full set! of cos i have to have it.
then went borders doing the same thing again: checking out Q, sight & sound, res, idn. more men are hanging around the female mag section and it grossed me out. all those metrosexual stuff is turning men into sissy duplicates.

music section having 50% sale for selected albums and dvds, like radiohead's limited edition Hail to the Thief, so tempting but heard album not superb; suede, beth orton, sinead o connor. bought bjork's live at cambridge dvd, my very first proper music dvd at $15 only :D
friend said i seem to be addicted to buying cds. this is bad i thought, cos not doing justice to the albums. i thought albums are like wine, taste it, give it full attention. if it s gd it ll grow and last.

9.30pm. forgot to have dinner, so just bought a scone and ate it along the way home.

felt happy and light and free. a night quiet and all by myself.
but if all these interests are taken away, i wonder if i can bear juz doing nothing.
i think i would feel lonely.

gone are the trees

today when i walked home from chinese gdn mrt, i saw some workers sawing off a tree by the coffeeshop. a few steps further is a tree stump.
ipod was playing sufjan stevens' "all the trees in the field will clap their hands."

i like to walk to the chinese gdn mrt from home to work, and from work back home.
when i passed by the coffeeshop, i would look up 90 deg to see the branches of 3 trees lined up at the side. the branches are sparse but always fit in with the backdrop of greyish, milky or bright blue with fluffy clouds sky.
i would watch how the branches move over me as i walked head up 90 deg, it is like watching a film. im inspired to paint a corner of these branches with that exact grey colour.

now that i witnessed the tree falling, a part is taken out of me.
there is no more such moments of childlike happiness when i walk that path now.

this is such sad day.

adaptation

watched Adaption on dvd. it s a film directed by spikejones, screenplay by charlie and donald kaufman. the brilliant combo.

there s this line that sets me thinking, and makes me a little mellow.

'i want to know how it feels like to care for something passionately'

have i, in my whole life, passionate about sthg?
maybe yes, like photography and music.
but i thought about last time when i was in university, im so energetic in trying out new interests and discovering myself. now with work taking up large part of my life, i yearn for the breaks when i can go back to that feeling, of being passionate about the things i love doing. i want to paint, listen to music, take photos, walk in the parks, explore around, bake something, roll on the bed, sleep on the floor, dvd marathon, cycling, camping.
thats why it is very important that my job is my interest, not just to make a living, to pay off debts, nor to pay for my interests.
i want my job to be my interest.
i want it to be so much, cos i dun wanna spend large part of my life doing something that i know so clearly is not what i like most.
i really dun wan to lose that passion.

cough cough

yeah u may have heard it. there s this bug around the office that makes nose run and throat itch.

i will take mc tmr.

lovely.

had watched "in my father's den" on qantas plane to perth last hols. i like the colours and cast, but story a little confusing for me. actually wanted to buy the book by maurice gee, which the film is based on, but local bookstores dont carry the title. may catch it again when it s released at theatres on 16 june.

In My Father's Den
Based on the novel of the same name by Maurice Gee.

The film tells the story of a battle-weary war photographer who returns to his remote New Zealand hometown when his father dies. To his surprise, he meets 16-year-old Celia, the daughter of his first girlfriend, who hungers for the world beyond her small town. Many people are critical of their friendship. When Celia goes missing, Paul becomes the prime suspect in her disappearance.
